Jay aka PAPA

(Originally posted on 6/18/2011) jay & the kids

It's Father's day. We don't normally give gifts on this day but we make sure it is celebrated as a special day. I interviewed the kids last Friday evening about their father. I can tell a lot about him as a father, but I guess the kids can tell way more than I can.

Here we go.

We pretended I was somebody other than their Mama, who was interviewing them about their father for a very famous blog. *hehehehe.

Q: Do you think your Papa is a hipster?
Yna: Yes, because Papa does not listen to popular music (he switches radio stations when the "new" Key 103 comes on), and he buys vintage records and listens to weird music. Papa also likes to take pictures, wear hats, and has a beard and long hair.
... well, except Papa still buys clothes from popular stores like American Eagle and Aeropostale. He has clothes that my classmates wear.
Jason: He always shop at vintage record stores. He's also a drummer in two bands. I think he needs a cool van.

Take two!

Q: Do you think your Papa is weird?
Yna: YES! ...because he doesn't talk a lot but he has a lot of friends. ...and he doesn't like carrots when in fact it's very delicious. He's very particular with his hair and brings hair gel even when we go camping. Hehehehe. When he takes pictures, he laughs at you when in fact he tells you not to smile.... and ...and when he plays Just Dance on the Wii, he doesn't give any effort, but he gets the highest score. Weird!
Jason: No! I don't have any other Papa to compare him to. How should I know?
Yna: I think Budoy (aka Jason) is weird too. hehehe.

Q: Do you think your Papa is smart?
Yna: Yeah! Sure! When I don't know how to work the computer, he knows how. He knows math and physics, but he doesn't know how to write in cursive. :(
Jason: Yes! He helps me with my homework... mostly Math.

06.29.2010 : Jay's Beerday

Q: Is he funny?
Jason: Of course! He always tickles me and laughs when nothing else is funny. Hehehe. ...and so I laugh with him.
Yna: uhmmm.... uhmmmm... Oh yeah! yeah! ...because he told a joke, "What is orange and rhymes with parrot?" ... "Carrot!" It's funny because Papa doesn't even like carrots. He pushes his carrots away when we have them for dinner.

Q: Do you think he's cool?
Yna: My friends think Papa's cool. So, why not? ...He's a drummer in two bands. Did I just say that again or was it Budoy? ... And, um, Papa also takes photos in film and develops them himself.
Jason: Yes, because he is my father, and he takes care of me.
Yna: ...and Papa never gets angry with me.

Shhhh! Jay's sleeping!

Q: What is your most memorable moment with your Papa?
Yna: Oh NO! That's so hard. There are lots. Change it to, "Some of the best memories with Papa"?
Q: If that's easier for you, sure!
Yna: Oh! I remember on my very first day of first grade, he bought me flowers, and when Jason and I were very young he'd take us to the park a lot.
Another time, when I was six and Mama was at work, I wanted to learn how to write in cursive. Hehehehe. Papa tried teaching me, even when he didn't really know how either. His "r" was a weird shape, like a bump or a hill.
There was one time when Mama was mad at me, so I asked Papa to cut my bangs. They looked awful and crooked. Hahaha. I also remember when we were still living in our second apartment in Rockville, I'd take a bath in the evening. He would blow dry my hair and brush it, while I would brush my doll's hair. :) ... And everytime Papa would buy Mama a designer bag, he would force me to choose one for myself even when I didn't want one. I don't like expensive things, I'd rather shop at my mom's store. Hehehe.  I have a lot of good memories with Papa.... the other Christmas, "Santa" delivered a dollhouse kit from Target. I was the only one at home at that time. The package wasn't wrapped, so I knew what my Papa's errrr "Santa's" gift for Christmas ahead of time. It was an ooops moment. When Papa and Mama got home, we laughed. They just told me to pretend I didn't know.

Jason: The best moment with Papa? I always remember that picture framed on top of our piano. It's a picture of me, Ate Yna and Papa lying down in our new bed spread set. I love that picture.
When I was around 4, we would always go biking in tandem bikes. He said it was okay if I didn't pedal so I never did, even though that meant Papa would have to do twice the work.
I'm not sure if many kids do this, but when he gets home from work, we hide when we see his car coming up the driveway. He looks for us all the time even when he knows where we're hiding. Sometimes, we even pretend that we're sleeping or hiding under the blanket. Hehehehe.
Last March, Papa surprised me with a 3DS. We went to Gamestop at midnight, but we didn't pre-order so we didn't get one then. The following day, he went to another store very early in the morning and surprised me when I woke up.

Happy Father's day to all great fathers in the world. :)
