Our Saturdate

I was asked about how my Valentines Day went last week. I answered, it was nothing out of the ordinary. I don't mind not being pampered and treated extra special on that day. What matters most to me is how I am treated the rest of the year.

Last Friday evening, the mister said he wanted to go somewhere on Saturday. Of course, what he meant was that we are all going. We went downtown, and spent an hour or two at the antique mall. I didn't buy from the choices I liked, but just the same, I will share about that trip after this post.

Anyway, after the antique mall, the mister said he would treat us to dinner. Yey!

We went to Sumittra--our favorite restaurant in our town. When we came in, we were asked if we had reservations. Oh no! We did not, but luckily we were still accommodated even if it was dinner time already. The place was packed minutes after we were seated. You really know the place is excellent when it is full--and not just full, but full of non-Asian diners. This was one of the few times when we were the only Asians in an Asian restaurant.

Normally, you are greeted with a pretty arrangement of fresh flowers when you enter the restaurant, but that night, it was different but just the same, it was lovely. Check the arrangements from our previous visits here and here.

Look at that lovely detail on their wall.

All mine. Redd's Apple Ale, water and Thai iced tea ($3).

Actually, the ale drink was the mister's but he said it didn't taste like beer at all. I tasted it and I liked it, so he ordered a different drink.

Por Pia . Vegetable spring roll served with sweet chili sauce.  $6 L1610058
This was lovely. The wrapper was crispy and the vegetable filling was soft and super tasty. The sauce was to die for. Even the carrots strips; we ate it all. Yum.

Yum Pla Grob . Spicy crispy fish tossed with lime and Thai herb. $12 L1610059
I think this is new on their menu. This was super delicious. The fish was crunchy and had the perfect saltiness to it. The dressing was just perfect with the greenery and the fish together. Jay and I wanted to lick every morsel off from the plate of this dish. It was that good.

Gai Yang . Thai Style BBQ chicken; marinated half young chicken served with green papaya salad and sweet chili dipping sauce. $14 L1610063
This was lovely too. Everything on this plate was so good -- the salad, the meat, the rice sprinkled with sesame seeds, and the sauce.

Phuket Paradise  . Shrimp, scallop, mussel, and squid with basil beurre blanc sauce. $22 L1610067
This was mine. I am so thankful for the generous serving of seafood and it was served steaming hot. When it was served to me, the meal was wrapped in a foil packaging and the waiter had to cut it open--it was that fresh. This was to die for--an addition to my happy thoughts. Honestly, I wanted to slurp the sauce with a straw. The seafood melted in my mouth. It was not chewy or over cooked at all. The bell peppers were crunchy too, and I loved it.

Crispy Jumbo Shrimp . Light battered jumbo shrimp sauteed in special sauce. Served with green beans and jasmine rice. $19

This was the boy's. He was generous with his beans; he shared with all of us. It was seasoned perfectly and the shrimp was according to the boy, yummy. They were jumbo indeed.

Gang Garee  . Shrimp in yellow curry with curry powder, onion potato and carrot served with cucumber and red onion relish. $12
L1610071
This dish was very special. It was served literally with love because it had several sliced carrots shaped in perfect hearts.

Look. This was what I meant.

Right before we paid, our pretty (I totally forgot her name) waitress served us dessert compliments of the chef and the management. It's Thai Coffee Crème brûlée with candied ginger (I think.). We really loved this. Not too sweet, and the ginger was delicious. It was a first time tasting it.
Thai Coffee Crème brûlée with candied ginger (I think.)

Here's the proof that it was indeed orgasmic.

Thank you Sumittra and for the lovely gift. It is always lovely dining here.

Ayoko na ng icecream, Lili! Yang kinain nyo na gusto ko!!! I want what you had, sarap ng seafood talaga! Mabuti na lang at katatapos ko lang mag-dinner at shrimps ang ulam ko kaya hindi ko gaanong nainggit, haha.

Tell your parents you should go out sometimes.

Thank you.

The dessert was to die for. I don't like masyadong matamis kasi at the cream brulee was tama lang ang tamis.
