December 16, 2022 - An Annual Event

The mister and I attended their Christmas party hosted by the company he works for for close to 25 years.

The event was held at a hotel about close to an hour away, closer to Washington D.C. Like I always prefer, I wore something old. In fact I already wore my dress at an interment of ashes of a dear friend last May. This ensemble...

And because I am being economical, I wore the dress again last Friday. I bought this from a thrift store near our house. I honestly find it pricey for $12.99, but then I didn't realize that it was discounted. Paid $9.99 for it, a 2010 - 2012 (not sure of the year) Oscar de la Renta dress.

This was my ensemble for the party.

Most of what I wore were, of course, from my vintage boutique, June22 at Etsy.

DRESS: 2010's Oscar de la Renta, thrifted for $9.99.

MINK FUR STOLE CAPE: 1950s White's

HANDBAG: 1950s - 1960s Ande's

BLACK BEADED SHORT GLOVES: 1940s - 1950s Penney's

WHITE PEARL NECKLACE: a gift from the big sister, Ate Aimee.

Shoes, belt, eyeglasses, Pearl bangle and earrings are from my closet

Lastly, I would like to thank June22 Vintage Boutique and their curator (that's ME!) for my outfit, and my daughter for my new haircut.

Here is also a photo of me with Mr. Fahrenheit. :D

The Sheriff

It's Sunday, and it's late already. I was trying to work, hoping to list a few items in my shop before I hit the sack. I put the 70s/80s sunglasses at one side and noticed the young lady coming in to the dining room from the living room. Then she stopped. When I looked at her, she was wearing the sunglasses facing at a mirror smiling wide.

Me: Ganahan ka ana? (You like that?)

Yna: O lagi! (Yes, I do!)

She expressed an interest to keep this pair of sunglasses last week, but didn't really think she was sure about it since this isn't her usual style.

Me: Okay. Imo na na! Go grab it before I'll change my mind. (You can have it.)

Then she did, and ran away with it. She wore it again and showed it to her father who was lounging and watching TV in the living room.

Yna: Pa, look! I look like a sheriff!

Such a lucky kid. My mother had clothing and footwear shops at the public market in the island back in the 80s. We didn't get clothes and other stuff unless we really really need them. Most of the time, I only got hand me downs from my older sister. But those were the days.

What I Do

On Christmas eve, I was asked, "You have a job already?" It might make other people explode in anger if asked with the same question, but it didn't piss me at all. It made me feel frustrated.

I just answered her, "Yes! I do have a job, and have been in it since 2003!" Because most people I know only knew that I am a stay-at-home mother, and they always forget to acknowldge that I am a homebased business owner too. Just because I do not have a boss, and doesn't go to work outside of our home does not mean that I do not have a job.

That wasn't the first time I was asked of the same question though. But that evening made me realize that I should be more stricter in following work hours in my e-shop like it's a brick and mortar store. Working in e-retail takes so much time, especially when you're working alone. I even work during dawn when I have to answer inquiries, for example, from a customer who wanted specific measurements of high waist jeans that she want to be shipped out ASAP because they're flying to another country in about a week for a holiday getaway.

I try to work at least eight hours a day now. At work, I am a/an...
  • curator
  • model
  • photographer
  • merchandiser
  • editor
  • researcher
  • in charge at the mailroom
  • head of the shipping department
  • customer service clerk
  • Salesclerk
  • laundry woman
  • iron lady
  • shoe shiner
  • sewing lady
  • errand girl
What else? Name it! I love everything I do and I think after many years, I have to set my time for work like everyone else does. I felt really bad that I turned away a friend who wanted to come on a Thursday or a Friday. I would definitely find time anytime soon to hang out with her on a weekend.

Here are some pieces that I am listing soon!

Summer Sunshine Dress

In April of 2013, I got a private message from a customer in my etsy shop that this dress might be used for a film. Since I wasn't really sure that it would be used, I waited for the trailer online.

When I saw the trailer, at 1:07 I saw the yellow dress. I wasn't sure though, but I had the feeling that it was it.

At 1:48, I saw it! YES! I knew that it was the dress worn by the character Amelia Stuart, played by Imogene Wolodarsky.

Among all the thousands and thousands of vintage shops online, a 1970s children's dress from my shop was chosen as a wardrobe piece for this movie, Infinitely Polar Bear that starred Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana.

Based on a true story, Infinitely Polar Bear is showing in theatres near you starting tomorrow, June 19, 2015. Check other opening dates here.
