Whatever happened to decency?

I was asked by non-Boholanos about the results of the search for Miss Bohol 2015. I didn't really care about the results. No, really. I was more surprised with the collective reaction of the Boholanos who witnessed the event.

To summarize it (base on what I've read on a page about Miss Bohol):
* It was a cooking show.
* The boos during the coronation night were deafening.
* The competition has lost its integrity.
* It should be Miss BOOhol 2015!
* Boycott next year's competition.

Want to read more about it? Grab a snack and get a drink! Get entertained here.

Why the reaction? Because Miss Tagbilaran, aside from being crowned as Miss Bohol 2015, also got most of the special awards even if there were more who were deserving. That is what happened according to people who watched the event. The newly crowned Miss Bohol is honestly pretty, and I think it was not her fault that she became the winner. I didn't think a young girl like her could brew something profoundly evil, and rig the results just to win the pageant. She's just a child.

HA! Yes, I did ruffle some feathers for my stripper heels blog post, but for sure, they weren't expecting the uproar of the people in the island. I wonder how they reacted to that. They reacted on a personal level about my opinion I wrote in the previous weeks.

It was said that the pageant winner is a symbol of  an ideal Boholana---The Quinessential Boholana. Really? But why the negative reaction on my stripper heels opinion? Is that what a quintessential lady wears? Is that what a smart and executive woman looks like? I have never seen or known any women who wear stripper heels to any event, except in nightclubs that I have seen in movies and documentaries.

Oh! Remember I stressed on decency in my previous post about this event?

Let me tell you. The gowns were okay. I meant some of them.

There were pink décolletage long gowns.
The second had a really low neckline ---as low as to the belly button but it's covered by a skin-tone mesh fabric. The cleavage however looked obvious in some photos such as this one. However, the pink bustier revealed the cleavage. Kris Aquino became more sensational than she was when she wore the same type of neckline in her green gown in an awards night in 2012.
It was "a goiter revealing gown" or the "hello-I-still-have-perky-breasts dress". She's in her 40s. These girls are still in their late teens. With Kris Aquino, the decency remarks and comments were thrown to her nonstop until it slowwwwly died down. What's the difference between the 40ish and a teener if you talk about decency? Decency is never compromised with age, in my opinion. What is more sad is as an adult who's more mature with a great head on her shoulder she should know better. Don't you think? But as always, the reason is it's uso (trend).

This green with a front keyhole and a bareback  I think this was one of the most beautiful among all of the gowns worn that night.

Miss Bohol 2014 wore a simple beaded gown but a beautiful one. She's pretty.

There was also an attempt of a see-thru look. This one. I am speechless about this see-thru applique gown---in a really bad way.

There was a haltered no-cleavage showcase or keyhole, but there's a party in the back.

The anti-dengue gown or the mosquito net.

Most of the gowns were pageant worthy ones.

Love their  boyleg-cut swimsuits too. It's one piece but it enhanced the female figure, and showed just enough legs.

But, I was, should I say, bothered with the emcee's gown. Look 1 2!
Why wore a "see thru-look-I-am-wearing-a-grandma-panty gown"? That dress is, in my opinion, perfect at the beach. It looked like the black lace is a cover-up dress to her one piece bathing suit. It was a search for The Quintessential Boholana, and I always think we Boholanas are decent. We are adaptable to change but, I think we are cautious about it because we still would like to uphold our traditional values and class as women. But the emcee, being a Boholana is, like I said, joining the see-thru-look bandwagon in Hollywood.

There was also an event for Miss Bohol. It was a wedding gown fashion show by a local designer. Most were okay. Some were exceptionally beautiful, but this one is clearly a strapless bra covered in lace. There was another see-thru top gown. This one. I am not sure from the look of it, but it does look like she's wearing a strapless adhesive silicone bra, like this one. Even if these gowns are worn at a beach wedding, a bra is always a bra. An undergarment that supports and covers the breasts, and not meant to be seen. Have you seen the gowns designed by Monique Lhuillier? Aren't they all beautiful even if her designs are classic, and aren't showing so much skin and undergarments?

It's 2015! Times have changed. We all have evolved. Yes, that's true, but if we keep on accepting the unnecessary changes in our ways of dressing, would the current youth be able to introduce what is decency to their future children?  What would the future generation wear?

Nothing?!

Just because I still value in dressing decently, I was criticized for not living in the present. Well, we all shouldn't be surprised when this look (J.Lo's dress below) will be an acceptable uso (trend) in the island in the coming days simply because successful celebrities in America are wearing them! Wanna bet?

One last point, the official studio pictorial done by Chris Ramasola was really pretty. It was more of like a 1950's look---soft curls, pearls, and (faux) fur. Natural look but with defined eye make up, long lashes and peachy or flesh colored powder, and not to forget perfectly shaped eyebrows. Their swimsuits are a look of the 60s to the early 70s. Clearly, they wanted to achieve the look from the past, but the pre-pageant look and the gowns were not. The vintage theme or any theme that is decent and classy should be consistent. It was and is always really beautiful.

Thinking out loud,
Lili
