That sounded like music to my ears. It was an obvious suggestion that we are going to eat out. Oh yeah!
Carroll Creek was surprisingly deserted at 5:40 PM. In the summer and early fall, there are a lot of people here, mostly teenagers hanging out with their friends or families with their dogs. There are also times when young musicians share their music near the bridge across Five Guys and not to forget, Magic Mike make his one of a kind balloon creations or the Hula hoop ladies gyrate to "danceable" music with their colorful Hulas under the trellis. Last Saturday, there was only the four of us.
This was it! This was formerly La Dolce Vita Cafe.
"Located just five blocks from Bryan Voltaggio’s flagship Lunchbox takes the fresh, seasonal ingredients used daily at VOLT and transforms them into gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts. Located adjacent to the Frederick County Library on the beautiful Carroll Creek Promenade, Lunchbox makes for a great stop for parents to grab a nutritious lunch for the kids or professionals to grab a quick nutritious meal." (source)The moment we entered the shop, I saw Bryan Voltaggio behind the counter making sandwiches. He was one of the finalist of Bravo TV's Top Chef season 6 in 2009. His younger brother, Michael won the grand title for that same season.
The kids were so excited to eat here. See Bryan V's half hidden face behind that big loaf of bread. Hehehe.
I love this ...mismatched silver ware on a clear canning jar.
The interior was minimal and simple compared to the former occupant of the space.
Our choice of gulps!
Mine - Mexican Coca Cola; Yna's - South Mountain Creamery milk; Jay's - Ale 8-1 and Jason's - Frostop Premium Root Beer.
South Mountain Creamery products are processed locally, specifically in Middletown, MD.
Drinking from the bottle reminded me of drinking soda in the Philippines.
Yna's choice was peanut butter and banana in sweet Hawaiian bread. $4.00
Yna: It was sweet and salty and very filling.
Mine was The Pilgrim sandwich. (turkey, orange-cranberry, sage, cream cheese in seven grain bread) $5.00 I loved everything about this sandwich, especially since it had cranberry. I love food with the taste of saltiness and sweetness rolled into one. I love the crunch of the toasted bread in my every bite of this
Jason had a Reuben sandwich. (pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickled cabbage in marble rye bread) $5.00. According to Jason, the bread used for his sandwich was something he had never tasted before and was very delicious.
Jay's was a Cuban sandwich. (jerk pork shoulder, ham, pickle, Gruyere, Mojo sauce and Cuban bread) $5.00 He really liked the meat. He said it was "yummy".
The food was really good. See!? I wasn't kidding!
Happy and busog children. (full)
...and after eating was back to enjoying downtown for the First Saturday celebration. I only regret not asking Bryan V if we could get a picture with him, since I'm sure he was only there for its opening day. Darn. Oh well.
