ASK WEDNESDAY: Have You Tried It?

Growing up in an island in Asia, coconuts are everywhere. We even have several trees lining my parents' property in Bohol. When I spent most of my summer days at my grandparents' hometown which is about 30 minutes away from the city, they dried coconuts for copra which is one of the leading industries of the Philippines. Drying them is done by slow fire and sometimes by sun-drying.

And when I saw these crispy fruit chips at TJ Maxx, it reminded me of living in the tropics, and of the taste and smell of coconut. But just imagining the taste of roasted coconut chips is like eating copra in an isolated island for a reality show like Survivor.

No! We didn't eat roasted coconut chips for snacks in the island. There was nothing like that, except for copra which we don't eat. We eat them fresh from the coconut shell, not the adult meat but the young one. Drank every drop of the coconut water fresh from the shell too. There were sweet coconut treats like Bukayo, but it wasn't roasted. It was like candied coconut strips made with lots of sugar.

If you live or have lived in the tropics and know what copra is, just imagine eating them for snacks!

Oh, no! Thank you!

Have any one of you tried this? Please let me know, I might change my opinion about this.
