Was there ever an unforgettable experience in your life that happened in the rain?
May it be a kiss, you met someone, your crush smiled at you, the first time you held hands, had a fight with a boyfriend, kissed and made up, fall in love, or you caught someone cheating?
Something like that that only happens in Asian dramas.
(This was a scene from a 2012 Korean drama called Love Rain. Didn't really gush about the plot, it was just okay. )
Here's my rain scene story.
Back in 3rd year college, one day in November, it had been raining the whole day. I had fever that early evening, but I had to go to school to submit a paper before the deadline. My boyfriend that time couldn't come with me since he was still in class until 7:30 p.m. FYI, that boyfriend is the mister now.
Wearing an old pink oversized sweatshirt, high waisted light wash jeans, rubber flip flops, and armed with an umbrella, I slowly walked towards the school from my on-campus dormitory. Just as I was about to enter the main lobby of the school, I saw a group of college fraternity boys standing in the rain by the entryway.
I got so conscious. In the Philippines, cat calling was prevalent. I knew I can handle them if that happens.
I took a deep breath and kept walking. Some looked my way, and a few were peeping in inside the building. None of them was familiar to me or had a class with together.
As I stepped up in the ramp, about 5 feet away from me, I saw another guy who just exited from the building, and was walking towards the opposite direction. He was long haired, wearing a Levi's jeans and a blue shirt with some fraternity logo print at the front.
...aaaaaaand BOOM!
Those guys standing in the rain swarmed in like hungry mosquitoes towards the long haired guy . They punched him like there was no tomorrow.
I froze, and then I felt hands pulled me aside. Farther away from the rumble!
Soon after, the school guards came. I didn't know what happened next, but I was able to submit my papers before deadline, went back to the dormitory and slept.
My rain scene wasn't romantic at all! Hahahaha.
It was a fight scene!

ASK WEDNESDAY: Have You Tried It?
Growing up in an island in Asia, coconuts are everywhere. We even have several trees lining my parents' property in Bohol. When I spent most of my summer days at my grandparents' hometown which is about 30 minutes away from the city, they dried coconuts for copra which is one of the leading industries of the Philippines. Drying them is done by slow fire and sometimes by sun-drying.
And when I saw these crispy fruit chips at TJ Maxx, it reminded me of living in the tropics, and of the taste and smell of coconut. But just imagining the taste of roasted coconut chips is like eating copra in an isolated island for a reality show like Survivor.

No! We didn't eat roasted coconut chips for snacks in the island. There was nothing like that, except for copra which we don't eat. We eat them fresh from the coconut shell, not the adult meat but the young one. Drank every drop of the coconut water fresh from the shell too. There were sweet coconut treats like Bukayo, but it wasn't roasted. It was like candied coconut strips made with lots of sugar.
If you live or have lived in the tropics and know what copra is, just imagine eating them for snacks!
Oh, no! Thank you!
Have any one of you tried this? Please let me know, I might change my opinion about this.
