What Matters

Last week, the boy's best friend came over on Friday afternoon after their classes. We were just talking  about anything in the living room while the boy was, I think, in the bathroom. We talked about his plans for college, about their other friends, his mom, and his other siblings.

Then, I asked him if among all of his siblings who is his closest. This was because, with Jason, he has no other choice but be close to his big sister. Thankfully, they are.

"None!" he replied.

"Not even one?"

"Yup, not one!"

"But you're close to your mom?! I know that because your mom and I are friends on Facebook."

"Yes, it's just my mom and I."

"That's sad."

"... but I have you guys."

That made me teary eyed. It gave me a tug in my heart. I will never forget that---we matter to him.

So touched. He is really your son's best buddy. And think of you guys as his family.

I am not surprised as your family is very kind and warm which I could sense from your blog writings. Many children today are deprived of good family bonding as time has changed the way of parenting sometimes.

My son's best friend's mother sent me a message, and told me that his son kept talking about us and that we are his second family.
