Jonas

Jonas, the snow storm that brought the first major snowfall and hopefully the only one in 2016 arrived on Friday, January 22. In fact, he arrived kind of early. Good thing that the mister came home from work at noon. The traffic was horrible at a half hour past one.

We were prepared for blizzard. We have bundles of firewood for our fireplace. We also have candles and winter sleeping bags just in case we'll loose power. On Wednesday, I was done with food shopping. On Thursday, I bought an extra shovel, and a big sack of ice melt. I didn't know that it costs about $20 a sack. It's mahal (expensive).

I know people who doesn't like the snow but have lived in this part of America for more than 15 years. Some really have lived all their lives here. I always look forward to the changes of the season, because I was born and have lived in the tropics almost half of my life. This change is really a wonderful experience. If these people who hates winter and particularly snow decides to move to the warmer weather, for sure they'll have another reason to complain about the weather too.

In spring time, although I have terrible allergies of trees and some plants, I still love the season because flowers will start to sprout from being dormant in winter. I don't know with you, but sprouts gets me excited.

Look!

spring onions

Exciting! Right? Those are just recycled spring onions that grew in a pot used to be a home of a cactus that died in the young lady's apartment last summer. That is why the soil is sandy.

In spring, I can also start planting my herbs, vegetables, and flowers. I can start riding my bike again and take a walk. Walking in our cul de sac was how I met some of my neighbors. I find it really wonderful that I get to see their faces and hear their voices rather than just recognizing them by the rear end of their cars that are parked in their driveways.

One friend expressed that she dislikes the snow. Ever since we moved in this part of the world, I have no complains. The winter makes me look forward for the next season. It makes me count my blessings---that I have a home, clothes, food, and a family to cuddle with. The young lady also loves the fashion layering in winter.

Like Pollyanna in the 1960 Disney movie (base from the book, Pollyanna by author Eleanor Porter published in 1913), be optimistic. Focus on the goodness of life. Always find something to be glad about, no matter what the situation.

So, if you are warm and comfortable in this snow-stormy weather, be thankful. If you loathed winter and snow, pack your bags and move away to a warmer weather. Just stop complaining. If you won't, then stay miserable.
